  • Prior to your arrival, read/view the provided class materials which include the IAVM Resource Manual, documents, articles and videos.
  • If you did not receive your password to access the electronic version of the resource manual, please contact Chanteé McKinney. The app for the manual is: Bookshelf iOS & Android. Please note:
    • It has an audio version embedded.
    • The publisher has placed a time limit on its usage of 360 days from activation. 
  • The Year 1 exam will be on the afternoon of Thursday, June 11th, using IAVM’s learning management system (IAVM Online). It consists of 95 true/false questions and can be taken via laptop or smartphone. If you require an accommodation and did not indicate this during registration, please inform the IAVM Meetings Team.
  • The class materials provide foundational information on their respective subjects and will inform but will not be the sole focus of class lecture & discussion. Hence, exam questions can be generated from both.

Recommendations 

  • Identify areas within the class materials of specific interest to you.
  • Explore the implications of each of the class subjects as relates to your current situation/location.
  • Within the class, students are encouraged to actively participate and share their own experiences to learn from each other.
  • Review the study questions, found in IAVM Online associated with each class for possible discussion.
  •  Networking
    • There will be formal and informal opportunities to connect with your fellow students. Icebreaker topic:
      • Think about the unique and/or challenging events you and/or your facilities have hosted, along with steps you took to address these challenges.
    • It is recommended that you bring a digital copy of your resume and be prepared to share business cards and or their digital equivalent e.g. dotcards and LinkedIn
    • DM or add to the conversation on the VMS SLACK thread. Instructions for joining will be sent 1 week prior to school.

VMA Leadership Institute Scholarship

The exam score will be used to determine the eligible students who can apply for a full scholarship to attend Venue Management Association’s Leadership Institute in Australia. Please note, those eligible to apply must be available and able to travel to Australia the following year e.g. if their Year 1 is 2026 and their Year 2 is 2027, they would have to be available to travel to the VMA LI in November of 2027. For reference, VMA LI 2026 will be Saturday, November 7th – Friday 13th a the Salt Resort, Kingscliff, Northern NSW.
